When we first got the Mama Bear Productions website up, I mean right at the start, before it was interactive, I attended a party. I ran in to some old acquaintances and did some catching up. When Irene asked me about what I was up to I told her about Mama Bear Productions. She listened intently, but I thought she was just being polite. As it turns out, though she is polite, she was listening with real interest.
Meeting a Children's Book WriterUnbeknownst to me, her husband, Ken, writes children's stories. So, I gave them the Mama Bear Productions website address and told him to check us out. I spoke with them not long after that party and Ken's response to Mama Bear was a little luke-warm. You see, Ken writes books for older kids - his daughter's age (14). Apparently he thought (due to Jolene's beautiful artwork) that we are mostly a little kid's resource. NOT SO!
Mama Bear Productions is truly a FAMILY resource. And while it's true that there is material geared for little bitty kids, there is also material geared for older kids, for folks who like good wholesome entertainment and every age in between. And while I'm on the subject, one of the things that I find so silly is the age grouping of kids.
A Lot Happens Between Ages 6 and 12How many times have you seen "For ages 6-12"? I'm sure I don't need to tell you that there is a BIG developmental difference between a 6 year old and a 12 year old. I don't mean to suggest that a 6 year old won't like or appreciate some of the same things that a 12 year old might and visa-versa, because there will always be some spill over. But for the most part, the 6-12 year old stuff is one way a seller or artist tries to group kids in order to sell the most amount of product.
Not so at Mama Bear. We have kids ages grouped every 2 years, which makes a lot more sense developmentally speaking. So no matter what the age of the child, take a look at our catalogue. You just don't know what you'll find!
