Mama Bear Productions would like to introduce you to Laurie Story Vela from LaurieStories. Laurie is a prolific author, illustrator, story teller and performer whose mission is to put the FUN back in literacy FUNdamentals!
Laurie began her career in 1989 as part of her undergraduate work at University of California, Davis. In 1990-91 after honing her skills by completing her Master’s Thesis in Education, she hit the road and became a national act performing her unique blend of stories and songs at Family Festivals, school assemblies, literacy programs and public library summer reading programs.
In 2000 Laurie stopped performing, in order to stay home with her newborn son. She turned to the Internet and started LauriesStories.com, home of her signature LaurieStorEBooks.
At the website you can also find the Leaping Literacy Online Library, featuring hundreds of free interactive literacy pages. Young readers type in their answers and the characters appear in page and sound to say "Good job" or "Try again".
One of the wonderful things about LaurieStorEBooks is that they are what Laurie refers to as “Power PDFs" meaning they are fully illustrated PDFs with an optional narrative from Laurie. With audio embedded in the PDF’s, you can choose to read the book for yourself or listen to Laurie read and sing it for you!
Laurie’s voluminous body of work contains literally hundreds of original rhyming stories, songs and free interactive literacy pages which blend phonics, whole language and English as a Second Language thus forming the basis of her fun, interesting and incredible repertoire. Some of her topics include:
...all in romping, rollicking rhyme!
In addition to the LaurieStorEBooks you can see Laurie Story in action through her free LaurieStorETV. These rhyme time videos are shown through YouTube and are making their way into Laurie's Stories as powerful, portable PDFs.
Laurie's son also helps out with Laurie's Stories by singing, recording and performing with his mom. Their work is featured on Laurie Story's 2nd website where the focus is spiritual literacy. New Thought Families: where you're never too young to pray or too old to play!
