Schemes of a Squire

$8.00

This is a children's play set in a kingdom based on medieval Europe. It is the story of a bored squire, a stay-at-home knight, a feisty princess, a henpecked lord and his ambitious lady, and their various friends, foes, and minions.

Schemes of a Squire is consists of 3 acts and is about 2 hours long. Here is an excerpt.

Act I, Scene I: A room in the castle.
Perran is talking to Kate. Kate is embroidering, Perran is polishing sword.
Pe: Not a speck of dirt on this blade!
Ka: There shouldn’t be. It hasn’t seen the light of day in years- except when it’s taken out for polishing.
PE: (stiffly) Sir Bagdamus is a great swordsman.
Ka: (sarcastically) Right. You know he only uses his sword for fancy parties and parades... I doubt he even practices anymore.
Pe: When he goes off on his next quest-
Ka: Perran! He’s not going on a quest! All Sir Bagdamus is interested in is food and ladies.
Pe: That’s not true! He’s interested in fashion, too.
Ka: My point exactly.
Pe: Well, there’s a tourney next month. Maybe I can get him to take part in it. He could fight that Sir Jerald- you know, Lady Lucia’s other admirer.
Ka: Good luck. I’ve seen more adventurous hamsters.
Pe: Listen, all we have to do is convince Lady Lucia to convince him. If she wants him to go to the tourney, then he will. And maybe, if he does well at the tourney...
Ka: Forget it, Perran. It’s not going to work.
Pe: If you help me-
Ka: Perran, we’ve been through this before. Remember the frogs? And the crystal ball before that? And before that, it was the mauve knight. We’ve tried everything, Perran, and it’s just not  going to happen.
Pe: We haven’t tried this. Come on, Kate. If you just help me, maybe it’ll work this time.
Ka: (sighs) All right. But this is the last time. If this doesn’t work, you’re on your own.
Pe: Great! Let’s go! I’ll tell you my plan!
Kate: (sarcastically) I can hardly wait.
